Polarities in Today’s Global Structure
The Effects of History on Today’s Developing World
In this workshop, we will examine the disparities between the “first” and “third” world by looking at events in history, especially in the 20th Century. We will touch on subjects such as the creation of and the role of the World Bank, the IMF and the World Trade Organization, the effects of the Cold War on the developing world, and the damaging effect of 1980’s neoliberal economic policies. We will discuss not only what occurred in history, but also how past events are manifested in today’s situations in the developing world, and what we can do about it.”

Jindan was born in California and raised in Germany and California. She is currently a student from California studying Development (of the Third World) at U.C. Berkeley. She has spent the last few months in Spain.
Studying development has opened her eyes to a whole new world of answers. Jindan’s mission is to spread understanding that actions, just as they have in the past, intimately affect the future of humanity, and that it is our responsibility to act against injustice and to ensure that the way our global system works, especially relating to global policies and economies, is just and fair for all people. Together we can shape the future.
